Next panel:
Hero: “What, like, ‘like like?'”
Areth: “Yes, Hero.”
followed by 3 panels of Hero with his hands in his ears, humming and denying everything, and Areth getting more and more annoyed.
one of the downsides of Areth’s phrasing here is that “like” can mean everything from love to “just friends”.. certainly Evon is aiming for more than just friendship, but Hero might try to deceive himself some more using the ‘just friends’ excuse now that the flaws in the “i just work for her” excuse have been pointed out.
and given that he’s got a fiancee already, and a need to not create a scandal (even if he doesn’t much like his fiancee), even if he did admit to something beyond ‘just friends’, he’d pretty much have to pretend otherwise in public. ๐
I look forward to see if I am wrong, but for now I remain skeptical if this has anything to do with liking or love. Evon is just a client and showing emotional attachment to clients is unprofessional especially dangerous in his type of work.
Technically she was a client until they recovered her book. And yes the Cabal are after her and Hero. But as I stated before Areth is asking a serious question that truly needs to be answered. And she’s not going to let him get away without an explanation. :p
Well, while her point may be true in the future, I think currently it might be more subconsciously to his own past that motivates him.
Everything in Hero’s past closely mirrors his own history with his mother. Did Hero let politics stop him taking justice on those responsible for his mothers death? No.
It stands to reason Hero wouldn’t allow the cabal after Evon have their way with her either. I think he’s between the point of Evon being a little sister in his eyes and thinking of her as a girlfriend.
I’m glad they both being forced to confont this. It’s not healthy to let things like this just slide and go unadressed. I am calling it now though, Evon will realize she is in love with Hero but he will see her as more of a little sister. They will both tell the other at the same time, “I need to tell you something.” Then Evon will let Hero go first and his admission will negate hers. Since it would be too awkward to admit to someone who loves you as a sibling that you want to be with them romanticly. I hope I’m wrong and our wonderful Brittney makes me eat these words.
Or, he can deny it. He doesn’t need a contract to do the “Right” thing, which is protect her until this cabal of sorcerers is taken care of. Evon is no longer a Client: she’s a macguffin involved in something far greater, and at great risk. Just because a quest doesn’t have a listed “reward’ doesn’t mean it doesn’t come with experience and loot from the adventure itself!
The foxes have spoken! Now we see what our two protagonists do with this information. Even if they do decide to admit to these feelings, doesn’t mean they’ll necessarily act on them right now, circumstances being what they are.
Heck, even if they must the courage to tell each other, they might just go with “Let’s take it slow”.
Still, this is a step in the right direction. ๐
Okay this isn’t fair, I dust got hooked on this comic I’ve been reading it day and night for the past 2 days, and then over course right at the nearly best part the part I’ve been waiting for it ends, my life hates me.
Way to go girl! ๐ Finally we’ll see if Hero will confess his true feelings for Evon.

LOL ๐
Just remember, confessing his feelings FOR Evon is not the same as confessing his feelings TO Evon.
Unless she is forced to overhear him. *smirk*
uh-oh….hero is getting irritated -__- but he needs someone to point it out to him. now let’s c if he can finally admit it to himself XD

She hit the nail on the head.

” Evon is just a client and showing emotional attachment to clients is unprofessional”
Doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen though… and Hero knows it!
Technically she was a client until they recovered her book. And yes the Cabal are after her and Hero. But as I stated before Areth is asking a serious question that truly needs to be answered. And she’s not going to let him get away without an explanation. :p

Now the question is: Will Hero accept the obvious, like Evon, or will he throw up every rationalization he can think of to deny the otherwise obvious?
I don’t think that Hero will be as vauge and standoffish as Evon was, but at the same time, he may not truely have an answer yet.
cant wait for the next page ๐

Areth is gorgeous in this page. I’d find her VERY persuasive… :-{)

He doesn’t have to admit anything to you!
