And so the plot thickens.
The incentive brings to mind the old poem:
Girls who wear glasses
Sometimes get passes –
It all depends on their frames!
He may not be the most powerful, but Shakar certainly knows his intel.
He plays the game well.
And what does he gain by revealing that there’s a secret source of dark matter? Maybe it’s a lie to distract Max, but I’m guessing it’s more subtle than that.
Oh, very nice incentive.
Shakar’s listed as a weak mage, so his true power is intrigue, wordplay, and politics. I still get the feeling that these two are going to team-up to do something awful–both in general, and for their careers and continued living–but at least Shakky isn’t going to let himself get steamrolled by Max.
Freya looks just wonderful, as usual, Britt. 😀 It may just be me, but it almost looks like she has just a hint more of a smile now, too.
I think ol’ TJ Maxx there is trying to get someone else to dig out the stuff, and get into trouble for it, then after everything dies down he’ll take the stuff for himself. I doubt Severian would be fooled by this, but you never know. Sevvy could just be waiting for an excuse to magically pound Max into next week, and this dark matter stuff could be just the ticket.
Either way, it’ll be interesting to see what he does with the stuff.
