I bet she wasn’t aiming for him but for the ice at his feet. [It’s what I would do.]

Well, she’s already seen that her magic doesn’t work on him. Maybe it’ll work on things around him.

Considering he planned all this he WANTS her out on the nice big field of ice so he’s got to have planned for her doing things like targeting the ice at his feet. Currently he’s the one in control of the fight including the terrain so if she’s the one that takes him down she’ll need something especially clever to make that happen, something he couldn’t possibly foresee her doing.

No. He doesn’t have to have planned for her targeting the ice. He may well have underestimated her and assumed she will only make direct attacks. He may have selected the terrain so that she would have no place to hide. Anything she comes up with, you could argue that he might foresee. But he is not omniscient and has probably not predicted every possible contingency.

are you serious? you think he could possibly know that what she would do would be to freeze the water? assuming ofcorse she did and didnt just stop her fall onto water that was already frozen. ill have to go back and look to be sure. but you are Sure he Knew she would do That? Really?! He is taking advantage of her being tired yes but controlling what she does? i doubt that.

She didn’t freeze the water, the water was already frozen. It’s full-on winter there, so the water hasn’t been ‘water’ for some time now. She just blasted the ice to slow herself down so she could land safely, then she blasted the ice again to boost herself off when she saw him jumping after her.

Yes he’s doing quite a good job controlling what she does, right to making her drop down onto the ice like he wanted her to do. The man’s a seasoned hunter of mages of course he’s got some idea how they react in different situations particularly when you’re controlling the stimuli that they’re responding too. He does X and he knows the general response is from A-D and plans accordingly, hence why she has to do something he can’t predict as a response to his actions.

He threw her off the bridge. If she hit the ice and collapsed, that would be most convenient to his plans. I think you are giving him far too much credit for the available evidence. In fact, as it stands now, if she levitates back to higher ground, he might not be able to reach her.

Now, it might turn out that he had a Xanatos gambit going on. But it is just not evident at this point.

I think you’re giving him far to little credit given the evidence. He’s a highly experienced hunter of mages, he chose the location that they’re fighting at, he erased her trail to hinder anyone searching for her, he made sure to have wards to block her magic since mages often resort to magic alone and he deliberately sent her off the bridge to where it’d be even more difficult for anyone looking for her to find her while he fought her. It wasn’t an accident he sent her down there he had plans laid to make use of the location and even if she could levitate it’d just make her an easier target and prevent her from defending herself or attacking given her current mental state.

” and he deliberately sent her off the bridge to where it’d be even more difficult for anyone looking for her to find her while he fought her. It wasn’t an accident he sent her down there”

I didn’t say it was an accident. He could reasonably expect the fall to render her unconscious.

So far, what is in evidence is that he is prepared for all the standard “go to” tactics that are people’s natural first attempts. Attacking the ground, rather than him directly, is sufficiently unusual that me might not have considered it.

You see, he threw her down there. Your previous claim of “making her drop” makes it sound like she jumped, just like he planned. So, if she levitates to put herself back on the bridge she is not following his plan.

I am sure that he is prepared for how “most” wizards respond. But the standard response is probably “direct attack, harder” The credit he deserves is not “being able to predict her every move.” That is not in evidence yet. And, in all likelihood, he is physically incapable of being prepared for all possible actions.

I think, if she would say something to the effect of, she does not want to be part of the cabal, he may give what he is doing a 2ed thought. And if that happens the truth may come out as to why he is attacking her to begin with.

Except instead of doing the rational, decent thing of simply TALKING to her about things to get her side of things he let himself be manipulated and is going solely on the word of Hero’s fiancee instead. His actions so far have shown no interest in even caring whether or not she’d join them or if she’d fight to the death to prevent it, instead he seems to only care that because she MIGHT be of use to the Cabal and MIGHT further their plans that that’s all the justification he requires to attack and attempt to either indefinitely imprison or kill her, instead of you know GOING AFTER THEM given THEY are definitely the kind of mages he’s supposed to be hunting. Apparently though he’s not man enough to go after them and targets people like Evon instead.

That assumes that he even knows what the cabal is, and if he does, that he is not a part of it.

Considering Hero’s fiancee name-dropped them to the guy she’d hardly do that if he didn’t know who they were, and given his moment of silence after the name-drop he clearly knows who the Cabal is and given his profession the last thing he’d be is part of the Cabal. Plus he’d already know who Evon was if he were part of the Cabal and that they want her and would have been hunting her already for them which clearly isn’t the case.

Kind of reminds me of the first Batman movie that Christian Bail was in: “You give up the high ground…for a temporary advantage.”
