UPDATE 3/8: I am unfortunately dealing with the death of my grandmother right now. As much as I would like to try and keep the regular schedule going, I’m finding hard to sit down long enough to get anything done. I’m taking this week off to try and recuperate and, hopefully, I will return to my regular work load next week. Thanks for understanding.
Don’t forget about momentum; big swords require the whole body to swing around, especially the legs. Hero should have right leg braced to his right, to push sword and body forward. Left leg should be pointed forward so he can side-step or back-step.
I do agree that Hero would know that. But I think this might be on purpose since even a wooden practise weapon the size of a greatsword can potentially deal significant damage in a full-powered swing and he might not want to injure Evon but show her about means to counter various blade sizes and shapes.
Not really. Even the largest sword I’ve ever used, a 450 year old antique at 6’3″ was only 11 pounds. It was all about leverage and balance. Swords aren’t as heavy as people think. And after 25 years of making and fighting with them and working as an antiquities restoration specialist I can tell you that a heavy sword was a useless sword. Most of the more outlandish ones you see were presentation swords, meant to impress the populace, not for use on the battlefield.
Still, you better be in good shape to heft one. That and being a little crazy helps.
in my studies of such things i discovered that the a great sword was never used in sparring because even a wooden practice one was so heavy that it could kill
the weight of a weapon depends on area and time heavy Armour worked hence the use of it and counters where needed like great-swords and war-hammers (yes being very skilled also worked) not that great swords and warhmmers are not among the hardest weapons to use
Thrust! Parry! Lunge!
Only if using a staff ๐
It’s good to see Evon is getting good training in swordsmanship!
Nah. She’s telegraphing like Western Union. He’s setting up like Babe Ruth ’cause she’s asking to get knocked up\bs\bsout.
So it appears. Also, they’re already in range of each other, but only Hero is ready to act on that.
Well, there are many forms of defense in sword fighting. Evon’s light sword would allow her to roll and not lose her grip on it. A quick roll forward would put her behind Hero and, if he swings his sword too hard, it would put him off balance opening him up for a quick attack from the rear.
Won’t do him any good if Evon ducks
Lots of thunking and grunting going on. I like it.
Sword training, too. Oh, wait a minute, that’s what you’re talking about, isn’t it? Oops. LOL.
Iiiiiiis it? _I’ll_ never tell. ๐
LOL.
Ah. Some good old fashion sword practice, medival exercise and training combined.
Mmm, sweaty Hero time!
My sincerest condolences. Take the time you need, and honor your grandmother properly; we’ll still be here when things settle down enough that you can focus on the story again. Those of us who’ve been through the deaths of our own loved ones understand.
Oh man…I’m so sorry! Take all the time you need. We’ll be here when you’re ready to come back. Spend time remembering the good and being with your family, blood and chosen.
I can relate, Brittany. I lost my sister on Memorial Day in 2015. She had lung cancer. At this time, I have my 81 y.o. mother and two nephews as the only immediate family left. You have my most sincerest of condolences for your loss. Take your time in regaining your concentration before returning. I, along with everyone else who loves this comic, will be here awaiting your triumphant return.
My condolences to you and your entire family, Brittany.
I’m still at the convention, so I just now got this. ~hugs tight~ OMG I am so sorry to hear that, hon! I know you don’t know me from a hole in the wall, but if you ever feel the need to talk I’m here. I’m on Skype, same name as here. Take all the time you need, please. Your well being comes first, it always has, the comic is a distant last on the list of important stuff. You take care of you, we’ll always be here. ^^ ~hugs again~
My condolences, Brittany. I can relate as well, having lost my father right before Halloween 2015 and my aunt just 7 months later. Take as much of a hiatus as you need, as we are all a very patient bunch.
You can bet that anybody who thinks your comic is worth waiting for (like me!) will be here at least every week looking for the next update. You take your time and do what you need to. We’ll all be here eagerly awaiting the next page.
So very sorry to hear about your grandmother. ๐ Been through it, myself, and it’s tough, so you have nothing but condolences and sympathies and good thoughts and digital hugs from me.
Lot of people say “think of all the good times”, but that can be hard to do when you miss her so. For myself, I found that it tends to help focusing on one thing that you remember from visiting her in your childhood. Because that was over, anyway, so it’s not something you’ve just lost now, but it’s something you can easily look back on fondly, because you always have. For me, it was raiding my grandmother’s cookie jar. She always kept it stocked for her grandkids, heh.
Definitely take your time, and mourn at your own pace. We’ll be here when you get back, count on it.
My most sincere condolences to you and your family. Take the time you need there is no rush we’ll be here when you are ready.
