She defintely IS Lady Evon… I wonder how badly Cleo will take it, and how hard Belvidier will push the issue (don’t ever underestimate him and what he can do for the people he likes).
He knows what Cleo is doing and with whom, pretty sure he has evidence of all the bones… err, skeletons, in her closet.
Maybe, but probably not. Hero is pretty creme de la creme, apparently, and Evon’s family has been out of the game for at least the better part of a decade.
A good seneschal could keep the wheels on in relation to an estate, but without the owner (using our world for refrence), they couldn’t initiate new projects, except for upkeep. A poor seneschal would have embezzled everything and run for it. Most likely, whatever Evon’s folks had, is much reduced, and possibly been taken by another in her absence.
If we are going to be a little cliche, I’d peg Cleo’s family taking it, just so we’d have another reason to dislike her, and additional drama.
doesn’t matter if she’s as ‘well off’ as Hero, now he can dump the slu-…i mean…’princess’…and marry Evon instead…which i’m sure Evon will ‘suggest’ to him at some point.
Hero can’t just ‘dump’ the princess.. that was an arranged engagement after all, by his lord no less, so if HE does anything to cause it to not occur it is not only a major embarrassment for her and him, but also a slap in the face to the king as well. the only way Hero could get out of that marriage is if the princess calls it off, the king calls it off. both are very unlikely. the king isn’t likely to cancel without very good reasons to do so, ones that provide a greater benefit than tying Hero’s house closer to the crown, and Cleo just wants the status so she won’t give up Hero. about the only thing i can see is if Cleo’s sleeping around is uncovered. this would be a major black eye for the kingdom if it got out, but it would allow Hero to cancel the engagement without insulting the king. or more likely, would cause the king to cancel the engagement as part of a political damage control effort.
Cleo’s sleeping around may not be as bad of a thing as you might think. In many aristocratic settings chastity is a null subject especially in arranged (for advantageous alliances) marriages. Like a contract between businesses, as long as there is no violation of the contract and the desired results occur, it matters very little what happens along the way. The only glitch possible is if her father and/or the contract specified her virginity or one of her playmates is very much on daddy’s bad side.
true, though the loss of face for the king caused from the princess sleeping around like that might be enough, even if the engagement itself is not endangered. also, if she gets pregnant (*especially* if it occurs when it is pretty much impossible for Hero to be the father, due to the timing), things could get very ugly, since not only would there be a loss of face issue, but also a potential succession crisis.
of course given that some of the other local lords are involved in the plot regarding Evon’s abilities, it seems likely that a revolt against the king is in the works.. and due to her dalliances she might end up on the wrong side of such a conflict.
sadly even with a castle (and potentially a title, given that castles are not exactly just given out to just anyone), i suspect things will be a bit rocky for the good Ship HeroxEvon.
First off: Don’t worry about the delay, your real life comes first Brit.
Secondly: Evon’s “bwuh” face is priceless. x3
Thirdly: Now Evon can be in the running for a potential wedding partner for Hero, as long as he can find a way to prove Chloe’s infidelities. Proving that she’s sleeping around with other guys will be a sure-fire way to get the King to call off the engagement, unless her family is just too influential and powerful for that. If her family is too important of an ally to the crown, then it’s a no-go for the cancellation; unless Evon can prove to be more of an asset, in which case Chloe’s out the door faster than an impatient thief. Here’s hoping it’s the latter, since Evon will never be able to stand Hero marrying her if he’s still engaged to the ice-bi….uh…..to Chloe.
Ah, don’t forget the rather resourceful Belvie on that front. His intel gathering seems to be unparalleled. If there’s dirt, he’ll find it, and with a trollop as dirty as Cleo? Heh! No problem.
Are you kidding? Belvie probably has a fat folio of evidence tucked away under the floorboards, and he’s just waiting for the day he can hand it to Hero. XD
You’re probably right. While a certain Caped Crusader has a damn good servant/mentor, I think I’d have to choose Belvedier. That and the rabbit is a serious baddass with flippin’ crockery…
As the others have commented Evon’s bwuh face on the last panel was sweet. 🙂 But there is a possibility that the castle or fief that she owns could be in the hands of her enemies. And if my hypotheisis is correct I doubt that they will be giving it up easily. I also agree that she now has a better shot at Hero, all she has to do now is just get rid of that ice cold, spoiled, cheating, royal brat. I still believe it should be done with a “little” magic fire. “^-^”
But yeah, getting Cleo out of the picture will not be easy. She’s got deep hooks in Hero, and major clout backing it. I doubt our protagonists will just whack her, so it’s much more likely that either the Cabal will get to her, or she’ll choose someone else.
My guess is that Hero will ultimately sell all his lands to “Lady Evon”. With no advantage to the situation, Cleo will have to go elsewhere. And then Hero can shack-up with Evon and they can run their lands together. It’s possible!
lets see.. if shes owner of a Castle.. that doesn’t make her queen till she is wedded plus with Hero with his own castle there’s going to be alot of bumping and grinding only a matter of time when i get the popcorn and get to see Hero BREAK EVON’S INSIDES UGHHH i’m so waiting for that day to arise chicken
Yeah, having a castle to call your own sounds sweet but what about taxes? Everyone thinks just because you have a portcullis and high stone walls that you also have lots of gold. But maybe Evon’s dad left her lots of sweet magic stuff inside said castle.
Please don’t sweat it,Brittany.
It does seem as though that Evon does have a now ligitimate shot at Hero.I have to suspect that her castle is not near by and could indeed be behind “enemy lines”,so to speak. But since the “Devil” is in the works in the forms of The Cabal and Cleo, things may not be as cut and dry as I have thought.
Love her darling little” Get out of here. I’ve got a what?” face. I have a feeling that she’ll,at some point, want to inspect this castle of her’s and plan things out from there.
That’s true. Bastard children never had rights to inheritance until VERY recently. That’s why William the Conqueror conquered England. He was both the oldest son and a bastard son at the same time. He couldn’t inherit anything from his father, so he made his own inheritance.
Nope, Corrin is Evon’s father’s son and older than her.
But Corrin’s parents were never married to each other, and in quite a lot of medieval jurisdictions that seriously matters – particularly in combination with Dad never formally acknowledging being the child’s father.
If they don’t have the means to prove paternity – his mother’s bare word would NOT do but they may have a magical test that could be applied – then Corrin is not part of the line of inheritance, period.
If they can prove paternity he would almost certainly be behind all of Dad’s legitimate children, and probably also behind any illegitimate children Dad had formally acknowledged. And, still, possibly not in the line of inheritance at all.
She owns a castle now! Her cue for fainting in the next comic in 3….2….1!

Queen of her own castle.
Wonder if she is as well off as Hero?
No no. its Hero’s castle! DUN DUN DUN

Evon makes the ‘Bwuh…!’ face! Heehee!

Someone powerful enough to have their own castle is bound to have enemies on every side. Evon had better watch her back.

Evon’s now officially a land-ownin’ Lady!
But yeah, getting Cleo out of the picture will not be easy. She’s got deep hooks in Hero, and major clout backing it. I doubt our protagonists will just whack her, so it’s much more likely that either the Cabal will get to her, or she’ll choose someone else.

that adorable “wtf did you just say?” face is more than worth the wait ^^

SURPRISE EVON!
Oh ho hoooo! It seems Hero has yet another Spire to mount!
How much you wanna bet that Evon finds the Cabal is using her clone to claim her castle and lands!
Here’s another thought. Depending on how much of a d!c# he is Corrin could also clam it as firstborn son.
Corrin doesn’t know about it, though. The letter itself was still sealed. I doubt Corrin could reseal it.
That depends on what the local rules are for someone born “on the left side of the blanket”.
That’s true. Bastard children never had rights to inheritance until VERY recently. That’s why William the Conqueror conquered England. He was both the oldest son and a bastard son at the same time. He couldn’t inherit anything from his father, so he made his own inheritance.
Corinne is her half brother on her mothers side while the castle would be from Evons father. There wouldn’t be a likely claim from him.
Nope, Corrin is Evon’s father’s son and older than her.

There is no princess in another castle! The princess HAS a castle!
