i don’t know how his protection works, but i’m guessing she could pick up objects with magic and throw them at him. if it’s an antimagic barrier it should still work. if it blocks everything then she’ll have to hope Hero comes with his sword…which i’m thinking is enchanted for some reason…possibly antimagic on it’s own. should beat the shield the mage hunter is using with no problem
That’s only if the Witch Hunter is just using an anti-magic shield. If he’s using a ‘one way’ shield then it doesn’t matter, it’ll block anything coming at him and yet allow him to attack, hence how he was able to use his sword to cut Evon’s arm. We’ll just have to wait and see.
He also lives in a world where that’s a good way to get yourself executed particularly since Evon is part of the landed gentry complete with title of nobility. Sure it’s not much but it still more than likely places her way higher than a mercenary who goes around attacking magic-users for supposedly evil actions or intentions.
the problem with that logic is that only a handful of people are actually aware of her title and such, and even if it were brought to the authorities, they would take a long time verifying for themselves if her claims were real, all of which adds up to ‘would be far too late to do any real good.’
This is where understanding tactics in combat situations is essential. First and always foremost is to understand yourself. What you can do and can NOT do. The second is the more difficult one: understand your opponent. What they can and can NOT do. In quick assessment of the witch hunter, his jem pendent around his neck is apparently absorbing Evon’s blast thrown at him, and using that said energy to create the shield it’s self. He may or may NOT be a magic user himself. But is any magic he uses absorbed by the jem as well? To many unknowns to assess in to little time to come up with a viable attack to him. Directly at least. He still is walking on the ground. If Evon were to blow up the ground below him that could knock him off his feet possibly injuring him, at least giving Evon time to think and act more.
I fully agree with your assessment, though I will state that it seems likely the hunter has *some* sort of magic, since he invaded Evon’s dreams. If not magic, then psionic abilities, although we have no indications anywhere else that psionic powers exist in this world. If he does use magic, I would presume the gem actually does not affect it, as most magic barriers tend to be one way barriers, as was mentioned above, or attuned to the person who activated the barrier so that it basically ignores magic cast by it’s own caster.
As for blowing up the ground under the hunter, Evon doesn’t usually seem to be that creative even at her best, and right now she’s far from being her best.
Part of the problem here is that Evon is not really conversant in the use of magic in combat, let alone truly understanding what she is capable of so far. In short, lack of training all around.
See Evon, this is why you go nowhere without a backup sword.

Someone cue Evee! Now!
Rip off his necklace… and then use it to rip off his HEAD!!
Uh oh! Looks like Evon’s in big trouble!
Use your magic to send up a fireworks signal flare, Evon! He can’t block that.
DAMNNN barrier even under his feet now that s rare.
You don’t live to have a reputation like his without covering angles like those.
Congrats dude, you’ve assaulted an innocent woman.

Man, Hero is gonna be beyond pissed when he finds out. Both the hunter and his “betrothed” is really going to regret this course of action.
They both also better hope that it’s Hero that deals with them and not Evon when she gets to it.
what are the odd’s Hero decided yo fallow her cause he wanting to apologise for the way he’s been acting?
