Evon needs to learn to adjust her response to the threat.
In particular, this guy wasn’t openly violent, so a magic bolt like that was unwarranted. A barrier to keep him from getting closer would have been more appropriate and made her seem less of a threat to him in turn.
He was openly threatening making unwarranted demands on someone telling her that her only choices were to come with him willingly or he’d attack her and take her unwillingly she was quite warranted in unleashing an attack spell on someone who was threatening her with violence.
Trouble is, he’s been causing her a lot of sleep loss, so she’s in no state to think clearly or make level-headed decisions, even if she wanted to. That’s on him.
The best response is “The Cabal is never taking me again!” and do something desperate. Flee, fight, attempted suicide, anything. It won’t work, but it will establish she isn’t with the Cabal, at least.
True, defense would be most appropriate here, but she is extremely sleep-deprived, which I know from experience can lead to some extreme lapses in judgement.
I think unleashing a magical flare to draw attention to things would be her best choice at least to start, something that would surely draw help then work on defense until someone came to her aid.
So far with his actions I doubt he was even remotely expecting a rational act out of her, then again given his actions a fireball to the face isn’t that irrational a response. He’s a stranger, shows up, announces he’s wiped out her footprints in the snow so no one knows where she is, calls her ‘witch’ (clearly in a dehumanizing fashion) repeatedly, then orders her to come with him and is quite clear that ‘no’ is not an option and he WILL use force to make her come with him. Few people would respond to that with anything but either a flight or a fight response depending on their abilities and he can’t be a veteran of his profession without knowing that, there’s no way he didn’t plan for that to happen with all the provocative things he’s done.
Totally random post here, but, I happened to scroll through your Twitter posts, and found the one with the Green Tea KitKat. x3 I love that stuff, I get a bag once a month from my local World Market (among other Japanese snacks like Ramune, various Pocky flavors including Green Tea and Banana, etc). …..yes I’m an anime nerd, why do you ask? xP
poor Evon…though she can always lift stuff with magic and hurl it at him. if it only blocks magic then sure, that should still be painful for him XD
Absolute magical shields? The Cabal must _hate_ these guys.
Guess it is about time Evon shows what she is capable of doing with a sword.
This does not look like it is going to end well for our dear sorceress.

He was the one corrupting her dreams. He has already established himself as a threat.
Threat, yes. But not (in this encounter) openly violent.
I would take the position that Evon had dreams in which she processed him as a threat, but he had no control over that.

What happens when the unmovable obstacle meet the unstopable force ?
I think she is just surprised but was not really trying yet…
Phase two: Scream “Let go of my purse!” And kick him in the testicles.
I don’t want to see what happens to this guy or the chick when Hero finds out.

The flare would have worked better, yes, but in her sleep-deprived state that thought wouldn’t come to her.
Exactly this. Him expecting her to act rationally is a little absurd. She’s jittery and hyper-emotional.

where is Evee when you need her?
Um, just a thought . . .
